"Jesus if you don't show Yourself, why should I believe any of this?"
These were my words as a pastors kid over 25 years ago.
At The Altar (Manalapan NJ), we believe that the true Jesus — the Jesus of the Bible — is very different from the image often presented by much of the American church.
Sadly, the modern church often falls far short of the example of the early church that Jesus built: a Spirit-filled community marked by love, humility, boldness, and supernatural power.
Many of us here have experienced hurt, disappointment, confusion, or even betrayal from church experiences that did not reflect both God’s truth AND God's heart.
From the place of truth (which is not always comfortable), we believe in pursuing healing, wholeness, and the true freedom that can only be found in Him.
From abusive backgrounds to searching for identity in the occult and witchcraft, there are dozens of stories at The Altar of how Jesus showed up and brought freedom and restoration.
The spiritual realm is more real than what we call the "real world", and we believe that Jesus still does today what He did 2,000 years ago — healing bodies, restoring lives, setting people free, and moving powerfully in the supernatural.
At The Altar, we expect miracles, believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and invite His presence to change lives.

We believe the real answer to the deepest of questions is not found in a cultural version of Jesus, but in following the living Jesus revealed in Scripture. He is not just an idea, but a Person you can know — the One who loves you, knows your story, and invites you into new life.
I know, because I have walked through it and seen who Jesus really is.
If you are like I was 25 years ago, I dare you to ask Jesus the same question that I did: "Jesus , if this is all real, show Yourself to me"
